General information about Makrigialos Villas

Our home is in the UK but we fell in love with the Greek Islands many years ago and have been charmed by the tranquil and relaxing environment around Makrigialos and this less well known part of Crete.

Holidays are very important to us just like any couple or family, representing an opportunity to unwind from the pressures of work (and school!) and the stresses of everyday living.  With its easy gentle pace of life Makrigialos leaves you feeling invigorated and full of zest.  With plenty of space and a stunning pool for happy children to enjoy, parents are guaranteed to feel good too!

Our commitment is to provide our guests with a friendly accessible service to a holiday that is refreshingly different from the usual holiday ‘package’ or self-catering accommodation usually found in Greece.   We want you to feel at home in our villas and so we have designed our villas around al fresco living with lots of balcony space and everything you need within easy reach.

Substantial discounts available for late bookings and second weeks.  Please contact owners for details of special offers by telephone.

Customer feedback is very welcome and each villa has its own guest book for comments and suggestions, which we then post to our website.   We hope that staying in our luxury villas is a holiday experience you will want to repeat.

Positive about the environment

Please help us to help the environment.  Be eco-friendly by not discarding towels to the laundry too early.  Less laundry reduces water pollution and energy use, which is good for the planet.

Our villas have solar reflective glass to keep the villas as cool as possible during sunny days.   Electrics including air-conditioning are operated by a keyfob (not fridge/freezer) so reducing energy use.

In Crete plumbing capacity varies from place to place so the golden rule is to assume the worst; do not throw anything down the toilet (including toilet paper) unless told otherwise.   It is normal practice in Crete to use the bathroom bins provided. The advantage of this arrangement is that the sea is pollution free and a joy to swim in.   However, because we have an environmentally friendly disccharge system, our villas use UK standard plumbing.   Good news for parents!

Crete rarely experiences water shortages or cuts, but if they should happen our villas have large water tanks to tide you over.  As we are on an island we always try to conserve water whenever possible.  Water from the tap is absolutely safe and drinkable.  It has a higher mineral content than in the UK so if it is not to your taste, bottled water is available everywhere (and we have large capacity refridgerators to keep it cool).
