Visitors Book & Reviews

From our own Visitor's Books:-

May 2008:     Looks like we are the first in this villa.  Basically fantastic. Hope all the dreams of the owners work out as your planning to date certainly made our dream of a good place to crash for a few days come true. So thanks.  We will be passing on the site details to our mates.  Great spot to base from re looking around this part of Crete.  We climbed Crete's highest mountain.  Great!   Shil and David, New Zealand.

July 2008:     We have had a great two weeks here. The pool and villa are great. The villa is very comfortable and we used all the facilities well.  We will return!  Goodbye, we wish you well.  Bev and John McColgan xx  Thank you too to Rosemary and Niko and family for all help and making us welcome.  Beverly & John, Fairlie, Scotland

July 2009:     We had a wonderful time staying at Grapevines.  The villas are very comfortable, modern and clean, and the pool area is absolutely beautiful.  The village is fantastic with everything you need (including the farmers' market for lovely fresh produce on Fridays), and it is a short drive to many lovely villages and beaches.  We would love to come back to Makrigialos!.  Anna, London, UK

August 2008:     Very nice. Enjoyed the two weeks in Crete. Totally stress free, and a lovely area with its beaches and places for a family meal. Would love to return some day. Many thanks to Rosemary and Niko. Very nice and “warm” welcome. Agios Nickolas is a lovely place to visit with its lake, restaurants and harbour. Thanks again, Phill, Sue, Leisha , Amy, Nye, Pontypridd, S.Wales, UK

October 2008:     Lovely house and Rosemary very welcoming. Lots of good walks in the gorges nearby and swims in the bay. Corraine & Joel, London, UK

October 2008:     We have really enjoyed the villa. – good facilities and plenty of space. We made good use of the balconies. The grounds are very well kept – I’d like cuttings of the plants! Rosemary and Niko are very friendly and helpful and a good source of information about the locality. We enjoyed the local beaches and gorge walks and Vreiko Cave (bring a torch) and the local food was good. We found the locals friendly. Beaches were quiet probably because swimming has closed for the winter. We enjoyed it all! Rognald, Margaret, and Michael, Orkney, UK.

May 2009:     Beautiful complex in a beautiful area. Felt very much at home and relaxed by the hospitality of Rosemary and Nico. Our stay was as peaceful and refreshing as anyone could want, and despite a very rainy start the weather soon became as perfect as we were assured it would be. A host of beautiful beaches are to be found scattered along the coast in this region, coupled with numerous breathtaking mountainous landscapes. Highly recommend renting quad bikes as a way to get around, safe, interactive, great fun and you still catch the sun! Many thanks, a great week! Toby, Tracy, Charlie M.K. & Bristol, UK

May 2009:     We have had a fantastic week’s holiday, relaxing by the pool or at one of the many amazing beaches. Many thanks for the food recommendations. The Dragon’s Cave was the best. Many thanks to Rosemary and Niko for their warm welcome and helpful tips about the area. Kirsten and Nick, London, UK.

May 2009:     The ideal location, in an ideal apartment, for an ideal holiday. We all enjoyed our week in Makrigialos and the eastern end of Crete. Be warned – we could be back in June 2010! Terry & Jean, Exmouth,UK

June 2009:     Booked with 3 other families, so was fab as children occupied, pool was great as was the beach. Gecko Bar definitely worth a visit by the beach (English lady runs it). Zorba’s good and so child friendly. Modern café on main road great cakes and coffee. Harbour lovely for lunch and coffee. Quad bikes kept kids busy in the evening, really friendly couple running it. Great holiday, lovely houses, fab weather, couldn’t have had a better time. Thanks Rosemary for all your help. Rachel and Nigel, Rhys and Ieuan, Swindon, UK.

June 2009:     We came for our 40th birthdays. We have had a fantastic week. The villa is everything you could need. The weather has been fantastic if a little windy (cooling though). Speak to Rosemary to find the authentic places to eat. A drive up into the mountains to Pefki and the Peperia restaurant a must. Great food and stunning view. At the bottom of the hill going back into town is another great place – Toxan! Lovely people, great basic food. Thanks for looking after us Rosemary & Niko; you both keep the villas and grounds beautifully. Paul & SJ, Oxfordshire, UK . And so life begins!

July 2009:     We write in German, but our English is not so good. Thank you for the nice week in Grapevine villas. Judith & Klaus, Heidelberg, Germany.

July 2009:     If you only eat out once try Petra Bay taverna, (turn right, downhill, first left before fancy goods shop, past bar and along front for 200m), family run, friendly and generous, ask to see the fish of the day, worth it! Diaskari beach and taverna worth a visit. If it is too hot rent a hammock and chill. Best pizza in town is a bit if a walk toward port - Gusto Pizzeria.  Martin G., Bolton, UK.

July 2009:     We have had a fantastic two weeks – thank you. Totally chilled and relaxed. We came with friends and didn’t stray far –the girls loved the pool and Diaskari beach where we went most days. Piperia Taverna in Pefki definitely worth a visit. We were made very welcome and the food was lovely. We are all very sad to be leaving this lovely place and hope to return soon. Thank you too to Rosemary and Niko. Very helpful and friendly. Sara, Richard, Amelia and Sophie, Leicester, UK. P.S. I loved it all, the pool was fab! And the beach, well GREAT!!

August 2009:     We had a great week. Enjoyed the pool and local beaches. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. Rosemary was very welcoming and attentive. We love Makrigialos and the local area, particularly enjoying eating ar Piperia Taverna in Pefki, and also Petra Bay Taverna. We would love to return for another fun-filled holiday. Thanks again to Rosemary and Niko for making us feeling very welcome. Sue, Jeff, Jessica and Olivia, Staffordshire. P.S. August 2009:     Our first time in Crete and we have been stunned by the beauty and tranquillity of the scenery, the warmth of the people, as well as two weeks of fantastic sunshine. The house was brilliant, and Rosemary couldn’t have been more helpful. We are out constantly – good places were Porphyra (almost next door), the Diaskari beach taverna, to Limari & Mina’s place in town.  Tim & Sharon, Devizes, UK

August 2009:     We have had a lovely time – everybody friendly. Rose & Nikos very visible and helpful. Villa perfect. We used the beach access via Artemis Apartments most days. Great for small children – if you buy a drink sunbeds free. Went to Elounda got a boat to Spinalonga great day out especially if you have read the book “The Island”.  Recommend the restaurant around the corner as previous family said almost next door, very friendly and reasonably priced.  Good value holiday would consider booking again next year. Had a great time. Dawn, John, Oli and Sam, Clevedon, UK.

And from Tripadvisor reviewers about the Grapevines site:-

"Just got back today from Grapevines in Makrigialos. Absolutely fantastic - you'll have a great time. The place is looked after by Rosemary and Nikos - couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Weather was 30-36 for 2 weeks solid............ Great beach walking distance from Grapevines called Diaskara - perfect taverna which rents out wooden/reed shelters with hammocks and sunbeds - (8 eur/day) very few people, great water for snorkeling etc. Also fun to use the Sunwing facilities - they do a great buffet breakfast (you guessed it - 8 euro!)  Would also recomend a day trip to Sitea - esp the Folklore Museum."

"Just back from Makrigialos this morning and we had a fantastic time.  It is one of the most relaxing places we've ever been to, so we found it hard to gee ourselves up to go anywhere.......As for places to eat - there are loads of good restaurants in Makrigialos. Our favourites were Stratos (gotta have the three cheese saganaki!), Tramuntana and Kastro. But there's easily enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every night. Also we loved Takis and Voula (sp. Boula) cake shop on the main street in the village. They had amazing cakes and ice creams - we ended up as regular visitors!   Makrigialos is a really freindly, laid back place and of course the beaches and landscape are stunning. Take a trip to Diaskali beach - it's really beautiful and has 'cabanas' with hammocks for hire."
